Day 7 - Tuesday 8th August
Work work work work work!
After waking up from a beautiful meal last night by the
chef, Senor Woolworths, we were excited for our first day of activities. Steph
and Milan headed off to the community centre, Georgie and Tahlia went to the
crèche, Tim and Ben were at the men’s shed and Clay, Teresa and Chloe went to
the spirituality centre.
At the men’s shed, Tim and Ben began work on candle holders
that Sister Liz had asked to be made. After much drilling, sanding and cutting,
the holders were really beginning to take shape and would be completed the
following day.
Tahlia and Georgie spent this morning at the crèche (a child
care centre) where they got to hang out with a few toddlers from the community.
Again, Tahlia’s maternal instincts came into play and she was naturally drawn
to the kids.
That afternoon we attended another mass. However this one
was different from the others as it was a home mass to bless one of the new
houses in the community. The lady who owned the house was super sweet and very
excited to have us there. The home mass was an experience like no other, as it
put a much more personal twist on the ceremony making it much more sentimental
for all.
For the rest of the evening we took the footy down to the
local oval to burn some energy. We were all amazed by the contrasting ground to
what we are used to, with the red dirt in place of the typical grassed ground.
Soon after a few kicks, Chloe learnt that her true talent wasn’t AFL, although
she sure gave her best crack.
Some brumbies were spotted not far from the edge of the
oval, with Tahlia, Clay and Steph adventuring after them to see if they could
get within arm’s reach . But to their own instinct, they trotted off as soon as
they felt we were venturing too close.
Back at home, several more rounds of competitive Uno were
played as we chatted about our day and shared the good, the bad and the ugly of
the day.
Goodnight to everyone back home.
Here’s another question for you all; who is the patron saint
of Australia?
